Apple has plans to lure and entice Android users to switch over to the iPhone by offering them Apple gift cards in exchange for their Android devices, as reported by 9to5Mac. These Apple gift cards will be made available under a new recycling and trade-in program that will provide in-store credit to users whom decides to trade in old smartphones, including those that come from rival smartphone manufacturers, such as Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, and other manufacturers.
The new program will work similarly to Apple’s existing trade-in program, which provides users with gift cards for older Apple devices that can be used towards a new purchase. Value of the gift cards provided to Android switchers will vary based on the individual device, its age, and its condition.
This trade-in program works very much like the existing program, where Apple’s staff will put a tag value on your phone based on its cosmetic condition. Any prominent scratches, dents, or other defects will affect the value of the gift cards. Phones that users intend to trade-in must be in good working condition. However, our opinion is if your Android is in immaculate condition, you may as well consider selling it through eCommerce sites such as Ebay, Amazon, Hardwarezone or Gumtree.
In addition to the above, Apple provides assistance to users to transfer their existing contacts to their new iPhone. Besides contacts transfer, customers are also able to receive an Apple detailed guide that walks Android users through with moving and backing up of their existing data and media to their iPhone.
